Robert Debré Child Brain Institute

The Institut Robert-Debré du Cerveau de l’Enfant is looking for its next Director

To head the IHU board, the Institute is looking for a renowned scientist who is a visionary, a strategist and capable of uniting players from a wide range of disciplines around a single ambition: to make a lasting difference to the lives of the children and their families.

A medical-scientific project serving research and innovation

Located at the heart of the Robert-Debré hospital in Paris, the Institut du Cerveau de l'Enfant (ICE) is a unique project in Europe. Announced in 2021 as part of the Assises de la santé et de la psychiatrie (Health and Psychiatry Conferences) and launched in May 2024 with major institutional partners such as AP-HP, Université Paris Cité, Inserm, Institut Pasteur and CEA, the ICE gathers caregivers, researchers, partners and involved individuals around an ambitious goal: to gain a better understanding of children's brain development, transform the treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders and improve learning.

By the end of 2026, the Institute will appoint its next Director, a renowned scientist, visionary, strategist and capable of federating stakeholders from various disciplines around a common ambition: to sustainably improve the lives of the children and their families.

A mission at the heart of children's health and education

Our mission is clear: to transform the care of children with cognitive vulnerabilities, based on a strong synergy between fundamental research, clinical care, education, innovation and training.

The ICE brings together nearly 400 researchers and doctors in twenty laboratories, working closely with the clinical departments (neurology, child psychiatry, neonatology, etc.) of the Robert-Debré hospital. The Institute receives government funding through the IHU (Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire) label of excellence.

By 2027, the Institute will integrate a new 14,000 m² eco-designed building, entirely dedicated to the cognitive exploration of young children, featuring a living lab, incubator, clinical research center, highly specialized laboratories and cutting-edge platforms.

The Institute has an international vocation, and is in line with the dynamics of the most prestigious centers such as King's College London, Harvard University's Center on the Developing Child and the Child Mind Institute in New York.

Who we are looking for

The new director of ICE will have to combine scientific excellence, human leadership and strategic vision. He or she will be able to guide the Institute in its key areas of research, care, innovation and training.

The future director will be responsible for:

  • the General Management of the Institute
  • the Institute's Scientific Department
  • recruiting new teams
  • the development of neuroscience research
  • the development of translational research
  • innovation and technology transfer policies
  • partnerships with healthcare professionals (hospitals and other facilities)

The future director will:

  • propose a strong, unifying scientific orientation
  • support the development of new projects and teams
  • encourage bridges between research, clinical practice and technology
  • working for a stronger international presence
  • actively contribute to the search for funding and partnerships
